Tirana, May 2025 — The Albanian government has officially approved a €1.4 billion investment for the development of a luxury resort on Sazan Island, marking one of the largest real estate projects in the country’s history.
The project, led by international developers, will transform the formerly restricted island into an exclusive tourist destination featuring hotels, private villas, a marina, and entertainment facilities across 45 hectares. Construction is expected to create over 1,000 new jobs, with completion targeted within five years.
Government officials emphasized that the resort aligns with Albania’s strategy to boost high-end tourism and attract foreign investment in coastal regions. Sazan Island, located at the entrance to the Bay of Vlora, has historically been used for military purposes and remains largely undeveloped.
The project includes commitments to environmental protection and sustainable development, with plans for infrastructure upgrades to support access and utilities. Investors anticipate strong demand from international luxury travelers drawn to Albania’s unspoiled coastline and growing hospitality sector.
The approval has sparked both enthusiasm and debate, as environmental groups call for careful management to preserve the island’s natural habitat.
The resort is expected to contribute significantly to Albania’s tourism revenues and position the country as an emerging luxury destination in the Mediterranean.
